incoming summer analyst without any excel/ppt knowledge :(
Hey guys,
I am currently a third year student at a top european university, and a few months ago I got an offer for a summer intern role at a big 4 M&A (which is my first interniship ever).
However, I am scared I will fuck up everything, since, even tought I may be a little knowledgable about M&A, I am a terrible user of microsoft office. I have taken an excel course at my uni, but I am very rusty, in addition, my power point abilities are close to zero, since I have never used it in my entire life...
Is this gonna be a huge problem? Since I am starting in 2 weeks, should I watch some youtube tutorials, or check online material? And how much should I be good at using these tools before the internship starts?
Every suggestion/advise would be very much appreciated
Thank youuu
Yeah watch YouTube. Everything you need you can learn from there. The basics, anyway. Some nice tiktok accounts too.
I very much liked the WSO Excel formation, do not hesitate to spend an hundred bucks on it
I think there are plenty of (free) online tutorials nowadays. You should probably focus on Excel as you cannot invent a formula so you have to know which exist to be able to use them, graphs are also quite important and most students suck at formatting before starting tbh.
PPT is more intuitive in a way and is more about knowing shortcuts to align/group and respect company graphic chart sometime using Microsoft plugin (which you cannot learn how to use before you know which one they have).
Practice a lot, this is the only way to really improve.
My advice are for general use, have done off-cycle internships so might differ for summer on (i) the formation you get prior getting started (ii) the tasks you'll have to do.
Take note of everything you'll be taught during you first weeks and force yourself to use shortcut as much as possible, you are going to do great!
Speaking from experience the Excel Crash course on WSO is absolutely fantastic. Super super well-made and no time wasted
Agree about taking advantage of free resources; the CFI website has some good ones. I just did one of their excel courses and thought it was decent.
There are tons of free online guides or MS office. I would definitely look into them. You can pick up excel and ppt pretty quickly so I wouldn’t be worried
