Infrastructure or Property
Hi guys,
just curious to get everyone's thoughts about the infrastructure sector. I've been following it for a while and am considering selecting it as my first preference for group allocations but I'm starting to have my doubts. On the plus side I find the asset class inherently interesting (airports, toll roads are pretty unique etc) and the work is pretty diverse (inclusion of PPP advisory work + usual cap raising / m&a) but as "cool" as the aforementioned is, the more I read about it the more I am starting to get the feeling that it is more buttered up media hype rather than anything substantial. I guess the key question is: do you think there is longevity in the sector or is it just riding off the media hype?
The other alternative I am thinking is property - relatively intuitive, substantial transaction values, dynamic industry (lots of restructuring work but also very aggressive consolidation going on), useful exit skills (if you want to set yourself up with a suite of property assets to live off for later). But the downside is that it may be a bit too "straightforward" to be engaging enough for a long-term career.
Maybe I have answered my own question here.
Thoughts?
Cheers!
I'm guessing nobody rates infrastructure here at all?
just my 2 cents worth;
infrastructure gives you more exit opp if you are interested in IBD
Property gives you more exit opp if you are interested in PE
infrastructure is probably more niche than property
hope that helps
