International Analysts - career paths?

I just accepted Summer 22 offer and can’t help but think ahead. If I get a return** I have 1 year OPT and approval odds for my country are extremely low. What happens after? I have read BBs are most accommodating and I’m headed to one next summer. I wonder if I’ll get a chance to come back? Would have to do MBA? What were your outcomes once OPT ended especially after non-STEM OPT. Thanks!

First off, approval rate for H1B application is generally high, it is the lottery rate that has become extremely low in recent year.

Second, you won’t have enough work experience for MBA just after one year OPT. The only thing you can apply for is a top MSF program, and the chance will be quite decent given your BB experience.

Third, since you’re only entering your Junior year, maybe switch to/add a STEM major which will tremendously benefit you. No matter how much you love your current major, it’s definitely worth it if your goal is to stay in the US long term.

Congrats on your offer and best of luck

Thank you for the detailed response and the wishes! Does adding a STEM major translate to OPT extension in Banking? If I do CompSci it’s unrelated to banking and hence doesn’t allow the extension despite the STEM Degree?

Sorry to hijack thread – another international with a ‘22 SA offer here. Is the H1B not the visa lottery process or am I just misunderstanding what you’re saying?

Incorrect, it is the green card that has country caps, not the H1B work visa. Cumulative probability of getting the H1B (assuming 30% success rate each year) across three years is: 0.3 + 0.3*0.7 + 0.3*0.7*0.7 = ~66%
