Internship Experience

I just went through group placement at my bank and started thinking. The popular consensus is that banking sucks, but have any of you gone through your summer internship and come out thinking that you absolutely cannot stand it and turn away from finance completely? Or is the money too enticing?

Take a few seconds and read over what you just posted. If someone went through a summer analyst internship (last summer being the most recent time) and decided to turn away from finance completely, do you think he would be here right now to respond to your post? Having turned away from finance he would likely have stopped associating with the finance culture, a good amount of which is present here.

I'd disagree. After you've invested a certain amount of time here, you'll realize this site is a goldmine of information for career-oriented people in general.

And if YOU'LL reread my post for a second, there is more than one road to take after completely despising your summer internship.

Nowhere in your original post does it say anything about alternate paths after a summer internship, but that's besides the point. The point I'm trying to make is that it's unlikely that you'll find someone here that hated their internship so much that they decided to completely turn away from finance. I say this with confidence because the majority of undergraduate students on this site are from non-targets and therefore likely had to invest significant time and energy to attain a summer internship at a bank. So far, I have yet to meet anyone here that disliked their internship enough to say that the global world of finance is not for them.

I apologize if I sounded condescending in my first post. That means I talked down to you.

I don't think people would disassociate with finance altogether, but I do think they'll stop worrying about strictly banking and carry over their skills to another industry (say consulting?). If they were a business major, a lot of skills are transferable.

The people that do it for the money won't last long, just like doctors that do it for the money, turns out to be too much.
