Internship in Philadelphia

Ok so the nice wallstreet oasis member aspiringmonkeyisanidiot posted this post on philadelphia investment banks. I have a few questions though. I am only a freshman looking to get an internship. Are all of these companies considered boutique investment banks? Because basically I haven't heard of really any of them. Are the ones at the top of the list more reputable? Should i aim for them?

2.) Have a completely separate question...if I am also interested in S&T should i basically be looking at the same investment banks that I would look at for an investment bank job? Thank you -Eric

Ok, I am almost done with an assignment, but I will take some time to help. I know Philadelphia very well.

BDO Seidman, LLP - apparently they might do some banking, but not in Philly (as far as I know)

Legg Mason Wood Walker, Inc. - Stifel Nicholas Wiesel (SP?) bought them

Capmark Financial Group Inc. - bankrupt and bought out Capmark Finance Inc. - Ditto

NatCity Investments, Inc. - I believe this is National City and they were bought by PNC. I might be mistaken

Susquehanna International Group, LLP - SIG is huge and very cool, In Conshohocken (SP?). I have spoken to some recruiters, not too easy to get an internship there. Job maybe. Mostly traders.

Janney Montgomery Scott, LLC - Larges IB Firm in Philly. Expanding a lot. Full suite of services

Boenning & Scattergood, Inc. - Smaller MM IB. They have a full suite also. In Conshi also

Commerce Capital Markets, Inc. - They were bought by someone I believe.

Capmark Financial Group Inc. - See Above

Marshall & Stevens Incorporated - No Clue

Berwind Financial Group - Pretty Small

Loop Capital Markets, LLC - Minority firm. I think they are past 18th st and Walnut. Spoke to a couple people there, fixed income sales

Citigroup Geneva Capital Strategies Inc. - Citi has some S&T and Public Finance in one of the Liberty Towers

Cohen & Company - No Clue

Colmen Group, The - Same

Colmen Menard Company, Inc. - Same

Context Advisors, LLC - Same

Corestates Bank N.A. (Philadelphia) - Acquires

Crosskeys Capital - Boutique, they are spread out, I think some in Harrisburg, small IB

Deutsche Bank Alex. Brown Inc. - Don't think they do anything of importance around here

FINCOM®, INC - ???

Greenberg Ferry, LLC -- ??

H.J. Hartz & Associates, Inc. - ??

Harris Williams LLC - They are out of the Mellon Tower I believe. I spoke to a MD at the Philly office once. Hard to pin point how many bankers are there.

Howard, Lawson & Co. - ???

M&A International, Inc. - ??

MidMarket Capital Advisors, LLC - Small IB, Deff Boutique

Newman & Associates - Same

Philadelphia Brokerage Corporation - Small

Remington Financial Group, Inc. - No Clue

Ryan Beck & Co., Inc. - Stifel Bought them I am pretty sure

WellSpring BioCapital Partners LLC - Not sure, but I know of a lot of VC and Bio stuff in town

Woodward Group, Ltd., The - No Clue

This list is actually complete shit and outdated. There are a ton of firms doing stuff. Philly is a decent town for finance IMO.

This is from the thread where the guy posted all the mid market firms (1-50mm) from IQCAP and I am fairly sure its old as shit. to the OP, just do some google searchs and start cold calling but don't expect anything mind blowing as a freshman.

If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses - Henry Ford

Here is a thread where someone got a big Capital IQ Run; maybe you could get the some for Philly.

Some pretty awesome information!

I know this thread is pretty old, but I am a sophomore in undergrad and my goal is to break into a sophomore rotational program in New York this summer with a bulge bracket. I want to try and complete a short off-season internship in Philly (I live in center city) during the month of January. My first internship after my freshman year was with a boutique M&A shop by where I go to college. If anyone has any tips of a shop in Philly that would be willing to take me on for January that would be great. Clearly going to be unpaid, just hungry for the experience.
