Investment Bankers Advice Needed - ASAP

Hey folks,

I’ve got some exciting news and could really use your advice. I recently got accepted into Columbia University's School of General Studies and I’m thrilled! I’ve kept a 4.0 GPA at my current school and will be transferring as either a junior or sophomore.

Here's where I need some help. I’m studying Political Science but my dream is to break into investment banking. I know it’s a competitive field and most people in it have finance or economics degrees. With my strong grades and the Columbia name, do you think I have a shot at landing a job in investment banking?

I’m aiming for top-tier firms, whether they’re bulge bracket or middle market banks. I’m committed to excelling at Columbia, but I’m worried about how my Political Science degree and the stigma around the School of General Studies might affect my chances. I’ve read that some employers put an asterisk next to Columbia GS, and that scares me.

If investment banking doesn’t work out, would I still have a good chance of getting into management consulting? I’m determined to do well, but I’m anxious about my job prospects after graduation.

Any advice or insights would be incredibly helpful. Thanks a lot for your support!

Yes that Im screwed because of the general studies name or yes I will have a shot at investment banking and management consulting? - sorry just needed clarification thanks

I don’t know or care enough about Columbia to know if employers asterisk a specific program within it, but I do know Columbia has incredible prestige and many more people are like me (who will read the name and stop there).

Kids are getting into GS NY from non targets across the country and you’re concerned about an Ivy League located right in NYC?

You’ll be fine.
