IR -> Something else?

Currently an analyst at MF PE Investor relations team, wondering what exit opps are like after a couple of years.

Interested in doing something else because the job isn’t as intellectually stimulating as advertised, and I’m not working on anything I consider remotely interesting and it doesn’t seem that’ll change.

I’m curious if it’s feasible to jump to PCA/PFG at a top EB (EVR/PJT/LAZ) or perhaps an investing role after a Top MBA program.

Thanks

OP here— my average day is 8am-7pm, most of my weekends are free. My day is usually filled with reporting and DDQ related tasks for Wirehouses/Institutional Teams/RIAs and also regular Corporate Diligence.

Although that’s a lot of reporting we’re also responsible for arming the sales people with relevant information and statistics to make their jobs easier.

also responsible for maintaining sales and performance data on the competitive set as we often don’t have complete information on thier funds, and we use that to inform as well as internal data to recommend strategic decisions to executives.

I’m a first year analyst making 150k TC, I expect that to grow on pace with the rest of the street. Happy because for the amount of work I’m doing the comp is very good.

You definitely can - personally went thru a similar process and was able to make the jump to PCA/PFG. Felt the same way about intellectual aspect.

Investing I think is fairly out of the question, you are just at an incredible disadvantage vs everyone with buyside experience / M&A / coverage

Takes a bit of luck but doable.

Thanks for the reply and happy thanksgiving!

How long did you stay in your first role before you went to PCA, and are you happy with the switch in terms of pay and WLB?
