I've been reading and hearing people talk a lot about how "the golden days of finance are gone" and how drastically the IB industry has and will continue to change. Current and former IBs, what has been your experience and thoughts on this? Any advice for monkeys trying to break into IB/ just got started in IB?

Ikr. Use the search, this gets posted all the time.
Ultimately, navigating the purchase or sale of a business is and will likely continue to be 1) a somewhat niche skillset 2) that isn’t worth it for companies to develop internally, since those events doesn’t happen too often. It’ll be increasingly commoditized and perhaps less lucrative, but there will be M&A bankers for quite some time. Same goes for ECM and IPOs, etc.
Someone has to find targets for all these SPACs right?
No, it is not dying. Very few things that people say are dying on this site are actually dying.
Let’s just say investment banking will still be around long after you’re put 6 feet In the ground :)
What’s the obsession with the “end” of IB? As long as there is a free market corporate world there will be IB...

I don’t understand the concept of “IB dying” at all. I mean....just don’t get it for a multitude of reasons. It’s already commoditized, don’t think that means it’s “dying.”
