Dude I’d say 90%+ of the people in banking are in it purely for the money. I was like you, insecure kid with anxiety who was always smart but thought they were destined to fail. Went into banking for the exact of reason of trying to make money quickly. Yes, having a lot of money saved at 24 definitely helps with insecurity, but more so than that the confidence I’ve gained from having gotten through IB and mental toughness gained has done wonders for my self image. Looking back at banking it was genuinely the toughest time of my life, with relationships falling apart and health going to shit while working 80+ every week. Nothing in my life “broke” (yes I know this isn’t the case for everybody) but I’m much better for going through it. If you want to do banking for the money and prestige for a few years, fuck it, do it. You might burn out after a year. Then exit into something you’re actually interested in and could see yourself doing long term. Even if you don’t stay in “high finance”, the attention to detail, work ethic and stress tolerance will boost your career. You can always leave and find success elsewhere.

Am currently in this stage of just trying to get through it. The work is not interesting at all as a first year and purely grunt bs. This message is a boost of morale tho, I definitely think I’ve gained so much attention to detail and stress tolerance. Just want to get to the one year mark and then see what’s what

Brother you just have an interview. This is not relevant until you have an offer
