Is it okay to send emails at any time of the day while networking?
Is it ok to send emails at any time of the day? What times are not okay? I ask because some emails need an immediate reply so instead of me replying at 12 AM, I sometimes forget till a couple days pass. This makes it seem like I'm not interested.
Just reply the next morning like a normal person would, unless it REALLY requires an immediate response (which I doubt as it is just a networking email). There is no fixed time during which you can or cannot send an email, but I wouldn't send a networking email at 1am. The chance of someone responding at that hour is not very high.
Why can't you just set a remind in your emails or mark it as unread so that you won't forget to respond the next day?
Thanks for the reply. You mentioned "next morning," is 5 am good?
I just wanted to echo what @katuok" said below. Just use common sense. If you email a busy analyst/associate at 5am and he sees this right away/when he wakes up, do you think his initial reaction would be to respond? He is most likely going to ignore it for the moment and then most likely forget to respond (or be strongly inclined not to respond)
You should use some common sense. What do you think a busy analyst/associate with plenty of more important problems will think when he sees a networking email from a student at 5 a.m.?
Personally I couldn't care less when an email comes through. If it comes in at 5am I'll respond to it when I have free time, and if it comes in at 2pm I'll still respond to it when I have free time. Only difference is a 2pm email has a higher chance of me immediately responding.
Thanks for the reply. So would you say 2pm is a good time?
Dude you're overthinking this. If I'm slammed at 2pm it doesn't matter if that's supposed to be a "good" time or not.
I use a chrome extension called Boomerang for Gmail that allows me to schedule my messages.
