Is It Worth Transferring To a Better School?

Alright, I'm a rising sophomore and I've been thinking about transferring lately. I'm at a private in the west coast which is probably around the T-50/60 mark and we send about 2-3 people to BB IB every year with all of them going to SF and we have about 5-10 people at NYC BBs. However I've always wanted to do IB in NYC (Just a better city than SF to be honest) but it'll be quite the grind to even land an offer over there. My school isn't a complete non target—might even get some BB's to do OCR here soon— but I feel it'll be near impossible to get an offer in NYC, so I was wondering if it would be wise to transfer to a target or semi-target. I've had a great time here and made a lot of good friends but transferring seems logical if I want a chance at IB in NY. What are some good schools that are preferably on the East Coast, have business majors and give a good chance for NY recruiting. I have a good ACT (in the 32-34 range) and currently a 3.7 gpa which I could probably raise to a 3.8 or higher by the time the app is due. Does it hurt to try or are there some hidden implications I don't know about?

Earliest I would get there is Fall of junior year right? Or is there some accelerated timeline? Much better as in an Ivy or something like Duke, which tbf have ridiculously low transfer rates.

That's what I have thought about as well, with most recruiting being done the summer after sophomore year/fall of junior year I would need to be there this upcoming school year which isn't possible as transfer apps are due next year in the Spring, unless there is some accelerated program which I don't know about. So is it not worth transferring in Fall of junior year at all?

There are some schools that will make an exception for late transfers (source: a friend who transferred to my semi-target past the application deadline), but it is situational and rare. I would not recommend transferring in fall of your junior year because the recruiting process is just so early. Hope this helps.

If you're a rising sophomore you wouldn't be able to transfer until your junior year correct? In that case it isn't worth it to transfer. That's because of how early recruiting is. I'm at a nontarget, T40, with 10-15 people on the street. I'm a rising junior. I've gotten a couple junior SA offers all through networking. It's definitely possible, even through networking with randoms, but it'll take a lot of effort.

I've emailed a good amount of bankers with a response rate of 5-10% which isn't bad as most of them are randoms. I've talked to around 5 senior bankers at various BBs and EBs who with some more networking might give me a first round knock on wood. While it is possible to get there from my school it seems somewhat of a crap shoot just because how many qualified candidates pursue IB in NY so hopefully my networking pays off. Do you mind if I PM you?

Just add an extra semester if you do transfer junior year. Solves your issue about recruiting since you'll have on-campus opportunities.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. I'm confident in my abilities and my ability to get some good internship experience and ECs. However, just being at a target gives you a huge boost and most banks seem to have spots reserved for them. Another issue is my desire to work in NYC which will be much harder than working in SF IB in my position. I'm most likely going to stay, just wanted to garner some opinions and since I would arrive Fall of junior year I wouldn't really get the benefit for IB.

You said you're confident in yourself so run with it. Just because you transfer schools, doesn't mean you'll get to a bank you want, or at all. Doesn't mean you'll get NYC either. You're just increasing your chances. Take it this way: Would you pay $20k to increase your chances of scoring an internship/job by 20-30%? If I were you, I'd be be making a bet that big that's practically 100% guaranteed.
