IU Kelley+Honors College Vs. UT Austin McCombs for NYC IB Recruiting
I'm a high school senior applying to college and I am pretty torn between these two schools. I love the culture and campuses for both schools, therefore, as a sort of tiebreaker I want to know which school will prepare me better for an IB and eventually HF job. Disclaimer: Have not gotten into either yet.
Kelley with the IB pipeline. Although if you're good enough for Kelley Honors, you probably have a stretch shot at a better school like Northwestern or NYU. IU's IB pipeline is competitive as fuck, but if you can get in, you're golden.
I've never met a single Texas person in NYC. That's just my experience, though.
Thank you for the insight, I know I'm competitive for some better schools (not trying to sound pompous), but I'm also looking for a great college experience.
Full disclosure, I went to Kelley for undergrad. IU is great if you want Big 10 culture and all that entails. Go Greek if you can, the frats dominate the social scene and you'll make some great friends and connections. It's very easy to get distracted by partying, so be careful.
IU has a surprisingly southern culture, too. It's not uncommon to see confederate flags flying from the back of pickup trucks, and to hear people make casually racist remarks. I found that a little disturbing. I don't know if you're not white, but if you aren't, you're more likely to have a negative experience at IU. (Expecting monkey shits for this, but that's what I observed while I was there.)
The IB pipeline is competitive and bites at the apple are hard to come by if you don't get in. But if you're in, you have equal opportunity as any HYP kid.
I love IU and it might be beating out UT by a sliver right now. I absolutely loved the campus when I toured and I have a bunch of friends who either attend their now or probably will next year. The one thing I've been worried about is being looked down on by recruiters, otherwise, I don't give a rat's ass about prestige, so hearing that the IBW will give me great opportunities is reassuring.
IU Kelley is super strong for IB. Go honors and work hard and you'll have a good shot.
