Jefferies pushing into Canada with 40 bankers, traders, and analysts
Recently came across news that Jefferies is opening an investment banking branch in Canada led by former Barclays Canada CEO Bruce Rothney. Alongside him are a number of previous Barclay senior employees including Equity Sales SVP, head of M&A, head of TMT and head of FIG. Does this indicate an early interest by other middle market investment banks to follow suit and establish their roots in the nation as well (certainly my hope as a Canadian)? As I understand, there are a number of attractive Canadian sectors for potential deals like energy infrastructure, oil & gas, and TMT. Thoughts?
