Joining as analyst earlier?
Post summer internship, I am given the opportunity to join in summer next year or earlier. Would you join earlier if offered such a chance?

Would think back to the conversations where this was brought up and consider whether this was really an "option" or really a "strong suggestion." If it's truly optional you are fine, but many of things that were suggested to me as being optional in my IB days were not. I've unknowingly done damage in situations like that and only found out years after when people were comfortable telling me.
This is arguably the last time you'll have the option to do something you've always wanted to do or travel extensively (until retirement), for that reason I wouldn't and do something you enjoy with the time. You have a job lined up so it should be a great stress free period

Tell them you'll take the year off, and around mid-way through if you're not using your time well ask if you can start early.
