JPM M&A ending/over??

FT, BBG reporting JP is folding M&A product group into coverage and Anu Aiyengar is out as global head of M&A....

so basically if you're an analyst in JPM M&A right now, are you about to become a coverage analyst? How would this affect HH/PE firm perception of the "group" for exits now ...

anyone at the bank have color on what this looks like.

End of an era. Have heard it was arguably the most fun bullpen in recent years with amazing WLB + exits.

Conspiracy theory but what if Jamie didn’t like all the exits coming out of M&A to PE so he said time for yall to become coverage bankers and stay A2A lol.

If you are folding M&A product into coverage (both US and EMEA I am assuming) then what happens, M&A product guys just get randomly allotted into new coverage teams like the draft lmao

Obviously depends on coverage team’s headcount / hiring growth expectations, but I suspect that they get folded into the coverage team of the industry that they worked on the most; not uncommon to see even 1st year M&A analysts be the unofficial “specialists” for certain industries where they see their most M&A deal staffings (at least that’s how it works in my bank)

Either that or they just get fired lol

Anu Aiyengar became the Chairman of Global Banking and M&A, and Charles Bouckaert (ex- GS banker) became the Head of M&A. My take is that this particular change is specifically about how sector-level leadership is structured, not necessarily the elimination of M&A as a practice or business line.

Funniest

JPM bankers ready to fire those Balkan canons at clients. Fish heads watch out

heard its group placement and there's heavy/disproportionate rush for the top groups
