JPMorgan Summer Analyst

Hey guys I received an offer from JPMorgan as a Summer Analyst in the Finance Analyst Development Program. When I read up online about the program it said I could be placed in any major business line, or in a corporate role. Has anyone ever been through this program? How likely is it I get placed in the IBD?

Look carefully...there's a Finance program (the one you are referencing) and it's listed under "Corporate". There's also another section titled "investment bank", which is the actual IBD. Look at the duties for the finance summer analyst...that's not what IBD bankers do. Sorry

The Finance Summer Analyst Program is a leadership development program that exposes you to the internal finance roles in virtually every aspect of JPMorgan Chase’s business. Over ten weeks, you gain experience in areas such as treasury, planning & analysis, financial control, and internal and external financial reporting.

The Finance division of JPMorgan Chase:

* Has responsibility for the firm’s financial management * Provides perspectives on past performance, trend analysis, forecasting, strategy, control issues and operating models * Assimilates and analyzes disparate information to offer advice to businesses and the firm * Produces financial statements, reports results, works with regulators, assesses and manages risk * Support’s the firm’s financial systems and helps to establish standard operations across functions

That's middle office.

Last summer, I interned with JPM and I accepted a full-time offer in their FADP. It's definitely not IBD. You basically are in a supporting role for the IB and their sub-LOBs, such as rates, equities, commodities, etc.

In terms of exit opportunities into IBD, that would be difficult, but not impossible. In my role, I didn't really have any interaction with anyone in IBD, so I didn't have an opportunity to network. It really all depends where you get placed.

If you have any further questions, PM me.

Finance is technically in IB, but you won't be doing front office work, you will be supporting them. you will not really have interaction with any FO there.

I was an intern this past summer for Credit MO under OBS, and I had friends placed in AM or even TSS, so I don't know whether you are guaranteed to be in IB or just placed based on business need.

I assume you mean you want to move into IB Coverage? It is definitely not impossible, take initiative and network your ass off - alums are great, have your manager introduce you to FO people that he works with, etc. I got lucky and my manager was really supportive of me going during work to meet with other people, but if not, meet them after work or just give them a phone call. If you start early enough, you can get some interviews by the end of your internship, I did.

Hence, unlike what JackDonaghy said, it does not only depend on where you are placed. But whether you are willing to take the initiative for your career, you have nothing to lose.

Just don't tell your boss the first day that you want to be in IBD, midway through I'm sure theyll ask what you thinking and I would say you are interested in what youre doing but are most interested in..... the ibd stuff you get to do, and you may want to pursue that.
