It's pretty doable, know plenty of people who made the Canada -> US transition (although most were from Toronto). I am assuming you are in an energy group and depending on how long you been working, that might pigeonhole you a bit into recruiting only for energy groups (a lot of which are located in Houston). If you're still an analyst, I don't think it's really an issue, but could become one if you are an associate. I also have no idea whether you want to continue doing energy or not. As for the move, as mentioned above, the easiest way is to ask for an internal transfer. RBC has the biggest US presence followed by BMO and TD. Otherwise, talk to recruiters and network. You'll have to take some time and make it there in person for networking and meeting recruiters so I would start by email people and having some intro calls and then scheduling a couple days in NYC to meet people face-to-face.
