King’s BA/BSc Political Economy VS Nottingham BSc Economics for Investment Banking
Hi all,
Unfortunately, I have only received offers from King’s BA/BSc Political Economy and Nottingham BSc Economics this year ( 2/5 of my UCAS choices). I was rejected from Warwick Economics, LSE Economics and Politics, and Bristol Economics.
I would not mind living in either city if it helps boost my career prospects as my parents are largely funding my experience. From my understanding, all of these universities are labelled as 'semi targets'. My aim is to work in investment banking as my main goal.
I have seen posts saying that Nottingham’s Economics and Finance Society (NEFS) is one of the biggest in the UK and is said to be substantially stronger than King’s, as it has a strong range of sponsorships with major banks. However, King’s location in London and its history and international/domestic prestige could be more 'beneficial?', but I am not sure how substantial that advantage is. From what I can tell, both alumni networks seem equally strong, but let me know if the factors I have stated make one stronger or weaker to make a definitive choice. Furthermore, looking at LinkedIn, it seems that Nottingham BSc Economics students have been securing more internships such as spring weeks and summer roles at UBS, JPMorgan, and other investment banks this past year than King’s students on the course mentioned.
In terms of personal preference, Nottingham does appeal to me slightly ever more. But that's mainly from the fact that I prefer the Economics degree title over Political Economy. And if I do end up with an internship, I'll just book a hotel or accommodation, so commuting isn't really an issue.
So which should I choose?
Thanks
I’m at a top feeder LSE/Oxbridge/Imperial and have a spring week at one of the most comp programs ie JP/Roths/EVR/MS, and from experience I’ve seen no offers for Kings and quite a few from Notts. If you want it from the start and are dialied in (you’re on WSO aged 17 so you might be), you can easily hit BB/EB if you perform very well in processes. Notts > Kings easily!
