Landing Investment Banking Internship From A Sophomore's Perspective (Hong Kong)

Hello everyone here, I am doing an International Business and Global Management degree in HKU and am passionate about investment banking. Last summer I had the chance to intern at a boutique investment bank and also worked in UBS Private Banking as an intern. The experiences are good and I understand more and I am more sure that I want to go for IBD (M&A>TMT>others). Apparently BB does not hire a sophomore as they can't turn it to a return hire.

So my main focus is going to be landing an internship offer at a boutique / mid-market IBD and at the same time learning more about valuations. Any suggestions around this for a second year student? Thanks a lot

At least for me, MS first round IBD is finished, JPM scheduled interview next week, and GS and Citi first rounds were all this week. Hope that helps!

chinese new year starts on 1/23 in 2012, so its understandable that they'd want to finish most of the recruiting before that.

The big banks recruit at the usual US colleges and hold separate interviews and info sessions from the US offices. I think they all recruit for internships about one month ahead of the US recruiting schedule. Expect to see big recruiting events (often by invitation) at hotels in major cities.

The two big international BB players in Hong Kong are Goldman and UBS. Business is really picking up in the region.

If you are in HKU or HKUST, ask around. Their job postings are usually for their full-time students exclusively but kids there should know a lot about local banking.
