Lateraling from MM to BB/EB
Currently looking to lateral from MM to a BB/EB as stated above. Currently in a regional office in the US and really enjoying the work I do and team appreciates me and have learned alot about deal workflow etc. but feel like I'm missing out on a lot of opportunity.
I feel like I want to be in banking LT so would like to go to an EB preferably but also know that they have higher technical requirements and feel like this is something I could improve on. Also have primarily tried to recruit by cold applying since I saw a few posts that networking for laterals isn't too useful but not sure if this is the correct way. How do people try to network while also working and also does anyone have tips to navigate this? Also have been removed from interviewing for quite some time now so if anyone could recommend anything to quickly brush up would be much appreciated
Recruiting genuinely sucks while working and I completely feel that/did it a year ago. Was in a similar situation to you where I lateraled from a MM. You have to just work hard but I would also recommend networking/getting your name comfortable with the team. Doesn't have to be hardcore but just getting them acquainted. gl!
I did this a long time ago. Best way is to go through headhunters. You could always network but almost every bank hires a headhunter for experienced / lateral hires. Also it should not be too difficult.
Brush up on your interviews. I did 1-2 over the phone, then a ~4-5 hour superday in-person and on the way back to the airport I received my offer. Was a very quick process.
thanks this is super helpful! I've gotten some luck just applying to postings online but will def try look out/reach out to HHs
Think about it from this perspective - every "good" analyst, associate, VP, etc. is too busy to be scrolling through the internet looking for job postings. Banks and (I hope) most people know that.
So when it comes to lateral hiring - they're almost always hiring a headhunter to look for "good" talent.
Also most groups tend to have a go-to headhunter they use (i.e., these roles are like revolving doors so generally they have someone they've used in the past which they'll likely use again, and it's repeat business for these headhunters).
Hope this helps.
