lazard freres: elite boutique

Lazard Freres really looks like the Goldman of the boutiques in the US!

However, do you know any specificities of the firm that make it look so special! coz well it's still a boutique! Why do so many sophomores prefer offers from Lazard as opposed to Citi or Nomura in Europe?

Are they good across the board or only in ibd?? (I mean Asset mgt and snT as well)

It'd be pretty difficult for Lazard to be good in S&T, considering they don't have S&T...

They like to think of themselves as a bank first, but AM made most of their money for a while, so I don't know what their AM rep is; I'm sure there are others better placed to answer that question.

The reason guys go for LAZ over other banks is that they have a sterling, centuries old reputation, great deal-flow, and top-notch senior bankers, none of which Citi or Nomura can boast. LAZ is known for a particularly harsh culture (though less so in London); I'm sure you can figure out how to do a search on that.
