Life Advice Needed // Next Steps
Howdy everybody
I worked in IB for a year and quit to discern the Catholic priesthood. After you let that sink in, just know that I’ve left that behind me and I’m looking to get back into finance / working world. Not necessarily married to finance and I have varying opportunities in Corporate Development, FP&A and one with a small head hunting firm.
I am now older and starting over so I’m trying to make the best decision moving forward. The headhunting position has the best potential for upside (~150k conservative estimate, which would double / triple if I owned my clients in the future) but no benefits, while the other opportunities would pay less (~90k) but be mucho more stable. Interested to hear if anyone has thoughts or has been in a less traditional position like myself. I’m not really a typical hardo or careerist but wanted to see if anyone here could shed some insight into next steps. At a pretty big crossroads and want to make sure that I think it through before stepping out of finance definitively by working as a headhunter.
Open to any and all suggestions. Could use a good laugh too.
Sounds like you need to go seek Jesus in the whimsical land of startups. Market data suggests that +80%* of startup founders are actually the man(/God) himself!

I would go for the Istituto per le Opere di Religione.
They will get you, good fit.
edit:
all jokes aside, there are funds out there with a strong religious background or with impact investment themes that hint towards it. if you are into that.. I'd go for it.
You haven't mentioned anything about your goals, desires, ambitions. These are super important. I say this on every "what should I do" post on here - having blinders on to focus only on comp, upside and exit opps is doing yourself a disservice.
Finance is what I have always been interested in and where I want my career to be but I’m not at a stage in life where I want to be an IB analyst again per se.
Looking for something where I can still be in the space and earn enough to support a large Catholic family. Headhunting has no benefits / salary but I could work anywhere and have more autonomy. But I don’t think I am best served stepping out of finance completely this early on in my career. It’s a good opportunity that might just not make sense at this very moment. Appreciate the thoughts sir!
Agree with your thinking. Headhunting is a bridge too far to make a move back into finance at some point. Sure autonomy is nice, but as you said, it comes at a price. FP&A is nice and stable at big companies, think that would be a good fit for you.
