LinkedIn Advice

I'm starting the whole networking process (junior trying to get SA position) and am in a couple of groups that have a good amount of people in IB in them (fraternity and university group). Would you recommend me "connecting" with them and in that personal message space writing a message to them, or spend the money and buy the inmail thing.

What if you can't find their last name? It only comes up with first name and the first letter in the last name if I don't have a connection to them.

I hate spoonfeeding seriously you have to be resourceful. I wish there was a way on the internet to look up things using key words.... Oh wait there is GOOGLE.

Google whatever info you have ie: Search: "John investment banking morgan stanley associate linkedin columbia university"

This will usually pull up there full name. Also it generally lets you linkedin request them even if you can't normally. Oh and some firms you need the middle initial. Well you can look this up online too although it gets kinda creepy. Search for one of those people lookup websites. Enter their first and last name along with the city like New York, NY and it will come up with a list of matching names along with the middle initial. Now try all of these name/middle initial combinations until one of your emails doesn't get bounced back.

You are welcome.
