London Analyst 1 - Half of the team gone - is this normal?

Hi Monkeys,

I have just entered the training as an Analyst 1 in London at GS/MS/JPM. I discovered that half of my team is gone (including some Directors).

Is this normal, or have COVID-19 work volumes accelerated this?

Probably not normal, would say that the elevated deal flow this year has accelerated this. A hot job market has created more opportunities for people to lateral or switch careers.

When do you guys think we are going to see the impact of all those people quiting in terms of more spots available? This fall for next year´s summer intake maybe?

The hiring market has been very hot for a year or more but they want experienced hires. Good time to be someone with 6-12 months of experience, but little impact to your typical university hire. Banks aren't going to hugely increase the incoming class sizes because they are on such a long recruiting cycle and it takes a while to train the hires (even now, hiring for 2022 SA they start late in 2023)

Im in a similar position. My team lost 12/15 people in the last year. They have replaced everyone but I’m a bit afraid because the culture  has changed drastically. Only the hardos remain.

If anyone else has experienced joining a group after interning that has had high turnover, please let me know how you navigated the situation.
