Depends on what level the role is and if you are a lateral hire but knowing BIWS 400 (or any other guide like the WSO or WSP ones) like the back of your hand is a pre-requisite, especially the accounting/valuation/DCF

I've had technical interviews be that short and usually its rapid-fire valuation, DCF, and accounting questions. I've also had longer technical interviews (~45-60 mins) and they'll ask the standard questions but then dive into merger models, LBOs, etc

Just wondering if HR messaged you or someone from the team. Saw my application moved from under review to pending so maybe didn’t get the yes from the team.

Analyst 2 in IB - Cov:

It was someone from the M&A team with a link to book a 20 minute interview. Interviews taking place Monday and Tuesday

Damn missed the cut, chatted with like 4 people too.

Have not interviewed for any of the Big5, but can speak for one Canadian data point (recent Barclays).

Technical round was a rapid fire questionnaire.

Lot of short conceptual technicals (accounting, valuation, DCF, financial ratios). Needed to understand the concepts and be able to explain why for things and not just calculate.

Longer questions involved calculating how different things flow through the 3 statements. (multiple items at a time and at multiple periods of time).

Also accretion/dilution both conceptually and mathematically.

There can be a few follow up questions based on what you say. Also always ask follow up questions if you feel like some data is missing. They usually do this on purpose to see how well you understand some concepts (same experience in the US BB/EBs).

Scheduled for 30, but VP joined a couple minutes late, got an email in the middle, and had his internet drop for a few minutes.

Had warned there were a lot of questions and time is short but finished his entire round of questions with like 3-4 minutes to spare at the end.

So, I think you need speed as well as accuracy to stand out by finish answering all the questions within the time limit.
