Made a joke with my associate today and it didn’t go down well…
At the office earlier today, my associate said he was going to go into the data room,(i obviously know what it is) and I said "can I come? I haven't been to it yet" and he said to me that this type of immaturity isn't suitable for the workplace. WTF is wrong with this guy or is it me

It's possible he thought your joke was malicious probably best to avoid sarcasm
I don't understand, how could it be malicious? That doesn't make any sense
Don't listen to that dude lmao
The associate and this guy who considers that to be malicious are both socially awkward mfs
Bro are you gay
Your associate needs to relax and you need some better jokes…
I thought it was a great joke. The type of joke i would make
I would've promoted you tbh
Great to hear. Can I DM you and we can discuss my top jokes and lateral opps at MS?
I don't get why the mods removed the comment. The comment was a joke and no one was getting doxxed. James Gorman is the CEO of Morgan Stanley and his email isn't hard to guess
We can discuss this in my DMs, always open to a lateral to MS. Even though I'm 23 I think I have what it takes to add value as an MD js
How do I DM you? You're anonymous. I like that we think alike though.
Best,
Incoming Top Bucket Analyst at MS
Bro I think your associate is just an ass lmao, guess his an MBA associate that is much older than you?
33 is a bit on the old side even for an MBA associate innit?
There are literally MDs and potentially partners who are younger than this guy
Sounds like a gremlin menace
Bro I just hated older MBA associates at my internship (except past veterans). These guys make life living hell because either they don't know how to do simple tasks or they'll constantly keep working and make you work late every night as well (latter being even worse because no one wants to work until 3 every night, except these guys, and they don't allow you to joke at all)
i love veterans, very down-to-earth and cool people to hang out with, as one might expect
Honestly this joke is gold
I've pulled much worse (as an intern) and never had any issues.
Lmao dude is a clown. Your jokes could use some improvement but dude is totally someone who played full court press during pickup and always fouled then said it was all ball and to shoot for it
Doubt he'd get picked due to the lack of height
Lol I made a joke to a senior banker about his injury (it worked very well in the context, and he found it funny). Your associate sounds like a dunce, but I'll be honest, I have no idea what your joke is supposed to be.
Data room isn't a physical room
What is it? I never heard that phrase as an intern, and I had to do a lot of random information gathering. We had a service we called "info center" which was our research team, if that's what "data center" means
It used to be
Lol 5'3? Next time he speaks to you like that just pat him on his little head and laugh.
I'd honestly love to do this. He needs a good hazing. Worst part is he's from the worst frat on campus so it's even more laughable. Bald 5'3 no bitches such a L life I take pity on him
All good points. One suggestion is to stop talking about Greek life now that you're no longer in college though
WTF LMAOO?? bro started straight flaming
i'd suggest not bringing up greek life now you've graduated. just a lil social tip
It was a decent joke and he sounds like an insecure douche. Keep your shine, crazy diamond.
Imagine being so insecure that you cant take a joke that isnt even about you lmao
Two things:
It sounds like a funny joke though and I'm sure you're fun to work with - but you need to adapt to his style of working unfortunately until you work with someone else. If it gets really out of hand post here again and we can give you some further advice lol...
Associate sounds like one of those guys who's barley hanging on. Tread lightly mate.
The joke is adorable and endearing. To be honest, you must have accidentally said it in a salty/monotone/strange way in order to warrant such a response.
I don't think I was, I tried to make it look sincere like I was serious. It was tongue in cheek sarcasm
Was it during a fire drill?
I am stealing this joke and telling it to my VP.
Joke is great LMAO
Are u target or semi? I got along much better with the Target alums (HYP) than the semi targets (Vandy, Nova, BU) I work with. They're just more relaxed and easy going. Just an observation from a non-target....
Semi, but I don't think it's that tbh. Some people are just weird lol. We all work in the same firm just relax and do your job. No need to be a hardo or an asshole to anyone. I just try to treat people the way I would want to be treated
How doesn't anyone realize this same joke was posted about a year ago lol
because we dont live on this place bro
The purpose of work is work not to have fun.

Who said it wasn't? But if you can't be in a workplace and make conversation or make jokes with people you spend the majority of your days with that's no life to live
I don't trust my coworkers. A lot of people in finance are ruthless and will backstab you when they can.

Sounds like a twat
What most stuck-up managers don't realize is that the average IB analyst is like 23, imagine being expected to ditch all kicks and giggles when you join the corporate world at age 22 and just put up a somber face every day like your grandpa in the 50s lol. The male brain doesn't even fully mature until age 25, people need to let it rest lol.
Was he fucking with you?
Maybe you should try jokes like the Jefferies folks instead...those seem to resonate
Top tier joke. Pay no mind haha
If this is a reference to that really old thread then good job
associate has a stick up his ass
no its just him, who knows?
Associate needs to get laid...
guy sounds like he has a stick up his ass. It's a professional environment, but you're not robots. Most, if not all, banks encourage camaraderie
