MBA requirements nowadays?

So I will be starting at a BB for FT in June and am considering taking the GMAT before I do. I really, really, don't want to go back to business school if possible. I've never really enjoyed being in school and really don't want to go back if I don't have to.

With that said, how much of a requirement is an MBA nowadays? I often hear about Analysts being promoted to associate without one but is this an exception or is it becoming common place?

Much appreciated.

bulge, you may quickly change your tune after a few years in banking. If you know you are absolutely dead set on being an investment banker for life, don't take the exam. As nycIBD mentioned, you can certainly bypass an MBA and move up the senior ranks. However, if you have an inkling that you may want to change careers, pursue PE, or move out of financial services, you'll likely want your MBA. You can delay taking the GMATs, but this will only make life harder should you decide to make the switch. If you do decide to take the test, don't half ass it -- make sure you score above a 700 and shoot for a 750+.

Personally -- I couldn't want to get out of undergrad and start working. I felt very, very ready to move on. Now I find myself extremely eager to get my MBA and can't wait to be back in school.
