MF strategic finance?
Hi all,
Brief background, IB > PE > B school.
I’m currently pretty deep in the process with some EB Rx teams, but I got a notification for a strategic finance role at a MF. This role sounds pretty interesting to me, as I’m not deadset on going back to the IB life. Does anyone have any insight on roles like this? Is it glorified FP&A?
Hey there,
Based on the most helpful WSO content, strategic finance roles at mega funds (MFs) can be quite diverse and interesting. They often involve a mix of financial planning and analysis (FP&A), corporate strategy, and sometimes even elements of corporate development or M&A.
While some might see it as "glorified FP&A", it's important to note that these roles often involve high-level, strategic decision-making. You'd be working on things like long-term financial planning, evaluating new business opportunities, and helping to steer the strategic direction of the company.
However, the specifics can vary widely depending on the fund and the team you'd be working with. It's always a good idea to ask detailed questions during your interviews to get a better sense of what the role would entail.
Remember, it's all about finding the right fit for your career goals and personal interests. Good luck with your decision!
