Microfinance Internship
Hi,
I'm a sophomore and I have a 8 week bb ibd internship lined up, but after its over I'll still have about 9 weeks left of summer (I'm studying abroad in the UK, so school starts later). Anyways, I'm considering spending the rest of my summer in a microfinance internship somewhere in south/central america, and I'm wondering if this would add value to my resume for ib. I should add that I'm interested in a microfinance internship for its own reasons (philanthropy/culture/fun), but I'm wondering if it would also look good and help my future career/internship prospects in ib. What do you guys think?
Thanks
Well, look at it this way. It can't hurt, you're interested in it, and it's a productive way to spend a summer.
Why not?
Well, it would cost a pretty significant amount (travel, accommodations, etc.), so I'm not sure if I can justify it on the grounds of philanthropy/fun/culture alone.
Complete waste of money.
think of it as having the BB finance your good work. interesting people are a scarce commodity at the junior level of this industry
value of internships in microfinance? (Originally Posted: 12/02/2009)
I go to a liberal arts school with a lot of emphasis on public service and there are quite a few alums involved in microfinance funds. I was just curious as to how useful an internship at one of these funds would be viewed in the finance/consulting industries and what experiences other people have had at these sort of funds. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.
I know this is really old but I would like to know the answer to this question as well. Thanks!
I went from an MFI in Africa to BB SA and now FT in S&T. They love it.
