Missed IB Recruiting - Recovery Strategy Advice Needed (Rising Junior)

Hi everyone — I’d really appreciate any insight or advice.

Background:

  • Class of 2027, rising junior, attended target school
  • Missed Spring 2025 recruiting for 2026 IB summer internships due to personal circumstances
  • Transferring schools for junior year
  • Very interested in IB and ready to hustle to get back on track

Questions:

  1. Off-cycle opportunities: What are realistic ways to land a 2026 IB internship outside normal recruiting? Any success stories with off-season hiring?
  2. Re-enter the next recruiting season: Can I re-enter the 2027 SA recruiting cycle?   - e.g., delay graduation from May 2027 to December 2027 to qualify for the 2027 SA recruiting cycle (target grads between Dec 2027 – May 2028) ? How common is this strategy?
  3. School choice: deciding between UVA McIntire (Commerce) and NYU CAS (Economics) for transfer. Given my situation and goal of recovering for IB recruiting, which would position me better?

Any insights or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Thank you.  Just a quick note,  for NYU it is CAS (economics), not Stern.  Are there any insights or experiences with NYU Economics that are better than UVA McIntire? Appreciate.

Am a stern student, would recommend UVA. CAS gets excluded from alot of the stern clubs/networking and youll find alot of stern alumni unwilling to push for you or even hop on call from cas

Thank your all for insights. Goal is to NYC IB.  Would the goal of getting into IB in NYC make the recommendation different?

Go with UVA over NYU CAS, you'll have a lot more fun there as well. Delay grad is the best option.

Appreciate your insight! Is "Delay Graduation" easy to do? Is there an official process I’d need to go through, or is it just a matter of planning my courses and then updating my resume to reflect the later grad date?

For example, if I plan for an extra semester and write "Expected Graduation: Dec 2027" on my resume (vs. previously May 2027), is that all that’s needed?

Would appreciate any tips.
