Model Won't Balance
Hey WSO,
I'm just getting started with modeling - I followed Wall Street Prep and made a model on my own of Target (all the assumptions are completely random, just did this as an exercise). For some reason, each year my balance sheet is off by 43. I've gone through every line for hours and I can't understand what I did wrong.
I probably did something extremely stupid - was wondering if anyone could help me out?
Thanks, here's the file (add the period): http://tiny [period] cc/tyrf7y
I am looking at it now and will get back to you.
Thanks so much - appreciate it

W/out looking at it, assuming that you've gone over your inputs and don't have a messed up formula somewhere, you probably omitted something. Most common mistakes would be to omit a line item from your CF or to omit something from shareholders equity (most likely forgot to deduct a dividend or tie in an OCI item).
I think I recall when I did the same exact thing as an exercise, there was rounding in Target's initial share-based compensation amounts listed in the 10-Ks that led to amounts of SBC that caused the BS to be off by a similar amount.
Will try to track down the model and get back to you, but I would double-check the notes on the 10-Ks and see if there are discrepancies there that they note.
