Morgan Stanley Los Angeles

Can someone speak to the quality of the Morgan Stanley LA office? What is the deal flow like, is the office executing deals, how are the exit opps (can you get to a MF from this office)?

Can only relay what I have heard based on speaking with people there. Mostly work in Gaming and C&R, although I know a couple of senior bankers recently left so that may have changed. They are fully executing deals and have an M&A team in the office. Didn't sound like high deal flow, but it could have just been a slow time when I spoke with them. Don't know anything about exit opps.

Lots of Consumer retail, gaming and some industrials. seems like a busy shop, lots of cross-staffing between SF and LA office. Menlo Park is only tech and strong in that space. LA and SF cover all west coast so strong deal flow, would think consumer retail makes the dealflow stronger now since the industry is consolidating. Not sure about exits, but since it is a small analyst class it all depends on what they want.

Team has placed into some top shops. I've seen quite a few MF exits including an analyst that's at TPG as of this past August. They are a major money maker for MS according to bankers at NYC headquarters. They are generalists with a great M&A DNA in the office and it's true that they collaborate with teams including West Coast tech but Tech does have their own in-house M&A guys. I think collaboration, as with any bank, will be situational and discretionary. Overall, LA culture tends to be better than NYC from a lifestyle perspective and they are seeking to expand the analyst class in order to free up resources in the current team. They aren't placing like the M&A NYC or Media and Comm NYC teams but I also can't say that they are placing worse on a per capita basis. If there is an opportunity here I would take it and believe that you'd have a chance to place at any buyside shop out there. Good luck.

Just wait it out. You should have asked them when you're going to hear back for second round. What do you mean switch to the SF office? You can apply there as well obviously, but I would work on getting a superday first. Make sure to send your thank you e-mails to the guys and sit tight. That's all you can do at this point.

Side note-I had someone pass on my resume in this office. Had a good phone conversation, and they were really cool. If I haven't heard anything, is it safe to assume it's too late and I am not getting an interview? Is it worth following up?

I am not sure..it seems that they already had a super day a week ago..
