Most Interesting CorpDev / Strategy / CVC Groups you have seen

All companies have their own nuanced approach to Strategy & Inorganic Growth. Are there any companies you have come across that have just wow’d you in terms of how innovative their approach is, how structured/efficient their operations are, and/or the influence they have within their company.

Of course, some companies are not active investors so their Corp Dev teams are usually very small or unimportant to the larger vision of the company, but those data points are also valuable. Overall I am just curious what groups have stood out to you the most over the years.

I have a couple that I only saw through job postings and have no idea if they are real programs anymore. Massmutual (insurance company), has a rotational analyst development program called “Immerse” where analysts rotated between Corporate Development, Strategy, Consumer Insights, and Market Insights functions. I know Capital One also has a rotational program with Corp Dev as a highly desired rotation.

A recent GSB grad is Chief of Staff & Head of Strategy of the F1 Las Vegas race. Ex-MBB. I'm sure this role includes a good amount of project development / project financing which I think is cool.

Totally agree. I have been tempted to cold message him on LinkedIn just to hear his story (not a transactional networking opportunity which is almost always the only reason I occasionally message someone I don't know on LinkedIn). To have a job like this post MBA feels like a crazy amount of responsibility that early into one's career. Granted, GSB and HBS (could just be a byproduct of being in innovation hubs like Boston / SF) students in general tend to pursue more creative opportunities than most since many already paid their dues in industries like banking / consulting.

Know an alumni from my investing club at school that went from MS TMT to CorpFin and later project manager for call of duty at Activision, hate the new pay to win idea but kinda cool

definitely cool, but working on video games is less glamorous than it seems tbh. know some people working as game designers and software engineers, the hours are terrible and pay is pretty bad vs the rest of tech
