Moving from IB to a "normal job"

How was the transition for you guys that left IB to a regular, ~40 hour a week type corporate job? I've seen a lot of posts about how this is "too boring" for people that start in banking, and maybe it's just my personality, but I think I'd be completely fine being much less productive. Been having a rough few weeks and the only thing I want to do at this point is be able to safely sleep in on Saturday / Sunday without worrying about an email blowing up my weekend.

Have a few friends that have done this and they don't run into that at all. I think 40 hrs/week being "not enough" is an IB fallacy perpetuated by workaholic personalities... if you have a social life you'll be fine.

biggest challenge is making sure you take advantage of the extra time by having hobbies, active friends, never saying no to an activity, etc. you might need to join some groups/clubs depending on how solid of a friend group you have.

I made the move from MM Analyst for 1.5 years to BD at a Series A start-up. Pulling 40-50 hours a week and let me tell you life is goooood. Comp took a haircut with 95k base, 5k signing, 25k EOY bonus and equity but it wasn't a surprise. I have time to work out, spend time with family and just chill. IB made me very efficient on how I use my time and overall productivity. I think the most important thing to do is have side-project or hobbies. I love to play squash so I joined a recreational squash league and play almost everyday. Additionally, I have a few side projects going - helping my uncle scale his small business, buying several multifamily properties and fixing them up and preparing to launch a YouTube channel focused on keto, fitness and finance.
