MS Economics with Finance undergrad to IB?

Hey all,

Looking for any and all comments (or a reality check) on my chances of working in IB after school. Currently at a non-target state school about to finish my finance degree in the Spring after 3 years (3.3 gpa), planning on doing a 1 year MS in Applied Economics that has a focus on data analytics (graduates typically work in big tech data science/analytics roles).

I have multiple leadership involvements in clubs/student government, and will be president of the graduate student body next year (taking up my summer as well). That being said, I have good leadership experience on my resume, but no relevent finance experience.

I'm considering 2 options:

1. Complete the program in 1 year and try my best to land a MM/Boutique Analyst role for right after I graduate (feels unlikely to me with zero relevent experience and low undergrad gpa, maybe data analytics would be relevent enough?).

2. Complete the program in 1.5 years in order to give me a chance at Summer 2024 IB internships. With this route, I'm not sure if it would be worth it or not to try for BB summer analyst roles (with low gpa and no relevent experience), so MM/Boutique would probably be the goal.

I'm interested to hear any thoughts on the relevence of the masters program, as well as if my low undergrad gpa would be something that holds me back from getting an internship/analyst position.

Thanks!
