MS Finance program a pathway for IB ?

Hello,

I am looking to get into IB. I went to very small college for my BS Finance and graduated in Fall 2024 and have been working. I am trying to get into IB and it has been really hard to land interviews. I am thinking to take one year MS finance programs in target schools but i want to make sure that that will actually help me get into IB ? I am looking at UMich, IU, Vanderbilt, UT etc MSF programs.

Was anyone able to get into IB like this or would you suggest any other way. Any recommendations really appreciated. I wanna see if i get something before fall, if not then i wanna do some of this MSF program

I went to a top MSF program in EU and pretty much anyone in my class who wanted to go to IB went, though mostly London as you'd expect. As I understand top US MSFs place comparatively worse vs top EU/UK MSFs. I don't expect any of programs you listed place particularly well in NYC IB roles except possibly Vanderbilt. Still might be worth doing but you should make sure your expectations are reasonable. Have heard good things about MIT MFin though not sure what placements look like.

If you'd consider IB in London, masters in UK/EU could be a good option for you. Oxford MFE, HEC MiF, LBS MFA, and a few others place quite well in IB in London, especially Oxford/HEC. Pretty easy to get in too so long as you can get a decent GMAT. They have not many Americans at these programs so I think that gives you a leg up in the process.

Thanks for your insights. London is amazing place i really want to be. I just want to be in US so that's why trying to look some programs here. I was thinking if i can just use the affiliation being at top school to get connections and do networking on my side and wondering if that side really helps or not really worth

Not sure what you mean by this but if you're open to London then if you go top UK/EU Masters, you're very likely to get into IB if you want to. If goal is only US IB then US Masters may help but path will be more challenging. In US I think best options would be MIT, Vanderbilt, Georgetown, Yale, Princeton, though some of these are more quant-heavy.
