Msc finance hec Paris vs Cambridge

I'm currently a senior at one of the targets in my home country (non eu/us) and looking forward to work at one of the financial centres like ldn/nyc! I've already done an internship in my home country at one of the MBBs if that helps.

1)My end goal is to work at a top l/s fund so which of the above school would be the best for me to land an ib/hf gig in London/nyc?

Thanks

Hey prathamanic, I think you deserve a response...heck, everyone does. We're listening, sorry about the delay ...my best guess at places on WSO that could help:

I'd go for Cambridge. Although I believe HEC has better placements, given that you are not a UK citizen, the 2 year UK automatic work visa after graduating from Cambridge (or any UK master's) will help you a lot. It would be much harder to break into London as a non-UK citizen coming from HEC (or any degree from continental Europe)

I'd say it is way harder to break into NYC. The reasons are that 1) it's not that common (as opposed to Europe) to break in as a MSc student, 2) in the USA you have a lottery system for getting the work visa (meaning that even if a firm wants to sponsor you, you aren't guaranteed a visa, I believe chances are at around 1/3 per year)

Considering I am a Chinese bachelor without any EU internships experiences before, which way do you think will be better to get a LONDON BB IBD job?

  1. Apply ESSEC/EDHEC MiF (Not GE, only 1-year program) for the first master, then take a gap year to do internships in EU, then apply for a second master like HEC/LBS/LSE/Oxbridge. Then try London
  2. Go for FSFM/WHU MOF and try to get an FT IBD in Frankfurt (Or ESSEC/ESCP GE then try Paris, though heard no foreigners there ), then try the relocation/transfer/jump into London
  3. Much Appreciated!

Option 1.

Option 2 sounds more difficult. First, banks are strengthening their Frankfurt/Paris offices, with the intention of establishing a long-term team there. I would not see these offices as a prior step towards London.

Second, do you speak French/German fluently? These offices typically prefer native/fluent French/German speakers
