MSc Thesis: Performance of acquirers where the target is distressed

I have to decide on what exactly to write on this topic so I thought I'd get some suggestions from you monkeys.

Which countries/parts of the world could I look at that are interesting?

Which period?

Also, perhaps you could suggest a title within this topic?

Thanks in advance!

You first need to refine your definition of distressed. If you're talking about going through a restructuring (e.g., Chapt 11 in US, Scheme of Arrangement / CVA in the UK) then there is a miriad of topics you could expore to get a handle on the success of the acquisition. If you're not going to put a binary measure on it that could get messy / harder to find data on. Also (and your title does make this clear) are you going for strategic buyers or PE firms? That will narrow your focus significantly and I would assume the former will, again, be harder to find data on. If you want to look at countries do a north / south divide of Europe (and this is assuming you're going down the restructuring route) as it's often touted that northern beer drinking nations favour creditors and have a more efficient bankruptcy law framework.
