MSF Advice

I've applied to various MS Finance programs in the US.

I got into BU Questrom's MSF and WashU Olin's MSF(CF track). I am waiting to hear back from BC Carroll and USC Marshall.

Questrom's MSF is new, there's no placement record while WashU's placement record is supposed to be decent. BU has a 16 month track where I can get an internship that I can hopefully convert into a full-time offer.

Does Questrom's brand value or internship period supersede WashU?

And also, is it worth waiting for BC Carroll and USC Marshall?

I'm an American Citizen so I hope this increases my job prospects in the US.

I don't care about anything other than placement, what's my best bet? Can anyone recommend a top choice and also give me a stack ranking of them based on job prospects post-grad?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's a breakdown to help you decide:

  1. WashU Olin MSF (CF Track): WashU's MSF program has a decent placement record, with mentions of 50% BB IB and 50% Mega Fund PE placements. However, some users on WSO have pointed out that the program's placement data can be anecdotal and not always transparent. Still, it has a stronger reputation compared to BU Questrom's newer program.

  2. BU Questrom MSF: The program is relatively new and lacks a placement record, which is a significant drawback if placement is your top priority. The 16-month track with an internship opportunity is a plus, but without a proven track record, it's a riskier choice compared to WashU.

  3. BC Carroll and USC Marshall: Both programs are worth waiting for. BC Carroll has a solid reputation in the Northeast, with placements in Banking, F500, and Big 4 TAS roles. USC Marshall, being in Los Angeles, offers strong West Coast connections and opportunities, especially in finance and consulting. Both schools have established networks and placement histories, which could make them better options than BU Questrom.

Stack Ranking Based on Job Prospects Post-Grad:

  1. USC Marshall (if admitted): Strong West Coast network and established placement record.
  2. BC Carroll (if admitted): Solid Northeast placements and strong alumni network.
  3. WashU Olin MSF (CF Track): Decent placement record but with some transparency concerns.
  4. BU Questrom MSF: New program with no placement record, making it the riskiest option.

Recommendation:

If placement is your top priority, WashU Olin is currently your best bet among the programs you've been admitted to. However, it is worth waiting for decisions from BC Carroll and USC Marshall, as they could offer better placement opportunities and stronger networks. If you get into either BC or USC, they should take precedence over WashU.

Do WashU, you’re still gonna have to network your ass off. USC is a great school for undergrad, but look at the MSF class profile - majority are foreigners (nothing wrong with that), but IMO it’s just a cash grab and not many end up placing well. It’s difficult for all MSF students but not impossible. Just gotta network and try your luck
