Muslim analyst wants to take 1.5 hour on break for on every Friday afternoon for Muslim prayer.

How would you guys react to such a request? I always knew Muslims have these Friday prayers but never knew anyone who actually observed it..

im not sure how to react to this. Go to HR? Say no? Guaranteeing Friday afternoons off seems too much to me.

You realize the ecumenical councils and later church councils literally made usury a heresy, right? The catholic church technically still condemns it (while still investing in interest-bearing assets at the same time). In the medieval period, all St. Anselm, St. Bernardino, and St. Thomas Aquinas are notable for arguing that the charging of interest is wrong.

Exodus 22: 25-27 -- “If you lend money to one of my people among you who is needy, do not treat it like a business deal; charge no interest. 26 If you take your neighbor’s cloak as a pledge, return it by sunset, 27 because that cloak is the only covering your neighbor has. What else can they sleep in? When they cry out to me, I will hear, for I am compassionate."

This question is so hypocritical because because we can go to any religion and find some bullshit in 1000 year old theory and texts to justify more bullshit today. However, that really doesn't matter. It is our personal freedom to practice or not-practice parts of our faith in any method we choose. Surely, as an American, we can respect this freedom instead of trying to gatekeep who can consider themselves whatever religion? For the record, I think Islam is full of bullshit but that isn't relevant here. I'm still going to respect you regardless and let you practice your religion how you choose. This is not to even mention, the tolerance for Orthodox Jewish analysts to take the sabbath off and Christian analysts taking hours off a couple times a week for bible study. That's pure hypocrisy.

And all of THIS, is to not even mention that this whole discussion is for 1.5 hours off on a FRIDAY AFTERNOON around LUNCHTIME. Jesus Christ bro. He's already giving you his soul and 90 hours a week. People who argue against this shit are the problem in this industry. OP please go to HR so you can get demolished by SJW's for this.

This is such a non issue. 1.5 hours is not Friday afternoon off at all, and the prayers are at 12pm - it's the equivalent of a long lunch.

as an aside, if you go to HR you'll be the one getting a smackdown not him

When I say. Go to HR I meant should I leave the decision to them and wash my hands off them.

I don’t mean go to HR and complain. Jeez. Some people need to get a reality chrck

Hey bro, muslim analyst here. I assume you are genuinely concerned so ignore the monkey shit. I mean its only 1.5 hours, I usually take 1hr but that's because the mosque isn't too far from the office. And incase there is some live deal blowing up I'm pretty sure your analyst would do a shorter prayer in a conference room in the office (not ideal or preferred) but could be done once in a while. I've never had an issue with this before with my vp or associate. HR wont have an issue either. Cheers!

Jewish guys at my old firm didnt work on shabbat and it was pretty okay. I don’t see how that is a problem. The analyst would just work earlier/later shouldn’t disrupt workflow at all.
