Need help for VP promotion

Ignore title, I'm an Aso3 in an elite-tier BB (think DB / RBC / Lehman) and am looking to stay in IB long term. Looking at all the VPs and up at the firm, I feel like I have a good understanding of all the skills needed to succeed in the upper levels. However, what I'm most concerned with is the fact I have good handwriting. From my 5 years in IB, I have yet to meet a single VP+ that doesn't write in a mix of illegible scribbles and wingdings that they themselves can't understand. I realized that bad handwriting is an essential skill for the VP role and I'm getting anxious since never once has an analyst asked me to clarify what I wrote on a markup.

I've considered using up my vacation time to shadow doctors, so I can learn the essence of scribbles. However, I showed my roommate in med school some of the markups I've received and he said that most doctors have better handwriting, so I realize that isn't enough. I've also tried using my left hand, but that just takes too long. I'm currently planning on writing in cursive, but need a more long-term plan when people

For all the VPs out there, how did you make your handwriting so atrocious? For the even more senior folks, how did you ensure your handwriting keeps getting worse as you move up in levels? Would love to hear some tips as I'd hate to be passed for the promotion because of my good handwriting.

If you're this thoughtful, you'll never make VP. A good VP writes comments first and thinks later. The fact that you had the ability to put this all into a single message, rather than sending it out across 5 e-mails, a text and two calls - you're going to be an ASO forever.

Do your mark ups on an ipad, virtually impossible to write something that someone can read

joke aside though, I love the Analysts saying Assos are idiots, Assos saying VPs are idiots and so on

As with everything in life you’ll probably find soon enough there was a good reason why they operate like this and you will probably do the same

let us know how it is when you’ve made it - though- and I won’t be surprised to soon see a post how Ds and MDs are such idiots
