Networking chat led to something unexpected - not sure how to handle

So I'm a college student trying to break into IB and I've been doing the usual networking grind. Last week I had coffee with an MD at a BB who's an alum from my school. Normal conversation at first - he was asking about my background, interest in finance, etc.

But then he starts telling me about this "special project" his team is working on and how they might need some extra research help from someone still in school. Says it would be perfect for someone looking to get real deal experience before recruiting actually happens.

Here's the thing - he was pretty vague about what the work actually involves, just mentioned it's "time sensitive" and "confidential." He wants me to sign an NDA before he can share more details. The whole thing felt a bit off but also like it could be a huge opportunity?

Has anyone dealt with something like this during recruiting? I don't want to overthink it if this is normal, but I also don't want to mess up what could be my foot in the door.

This sounds like something unrelated to his BB work

Compliance + HR will have a field day if this has any sort of relation to the bank
