No return offer- am I fucked?

So I didn’t get a return offer from my SA. The MD left it as “I’m sorry we hired too many interns”. He offered to give me a reference along with analysts.

How fucked am I for FT recruiting?
I have around a 3.0 from a non target school (it’s bad Ik) plus another ib internship from sophomore year.

I really think I want to stay in Ib as I enjoyed my time and received great feedback especially about my work product. Is there other options that I should be considering like taking another SA?

Feel u bro. No return from BB unfortunately and this market isn't looking great. Feel like I'll have to go multiple levels down to even have a chance of landing an offer. Keep me updated

In the same boat dawg, seems like a lot of others are too. Surprised there aren’t more threads about this cuz if literally nobody is hiring I’m bout to give up and go big 4 and just enjoy my senior year lmao

Same haha. I feel like usually there are more posts complaining about not getting returns and this year there's like none for some reason. Market absolutely blows rn, and I'm struggling to hear anything despite my SA being at a BB in a decent group. If I have to do Big 4 deal advisory or some shit, I may as well just kill myself

“He who has a why can bear any how”

Your gonna have to have a huge why to get to a decent/good bank for FT. A 3.0 GPA from a non-target is a fine GPA, but for IB it’s not good enough. I’d agree with the guy who talked about regional boutiques.

It’s a real shame because if you had a 3.5 you would be fine, could easily sell in interviews that a lot of people didn’t get returns (which is true)

Nonetheless, you still have to keep trying. Start networking at hella mid-markets rn. You never know what’s gonna happen. Obvi you have a small chance but it’s not non-existent. You have two IB internships under your belt, focus on that.

Good luck

As someone who recruited FT a couple years ago … that GPA is going to get in your way. Also considering how u got a 3.0 at a non target and didn’t get a return offer … maybe that says something about your work ethic. I recommend some self reflection as well
