Nomura Greentech Exit Opps
Very interested in the greentech/ clean energy space. Was wondering though if going to a bank like Nomura Greentech would close too many doors exit wise.
I'm interested in VC and infra PE, but would also appreciate having the option to go to traditional PE.
What have past exits looked like? Were they gotten oncycle?
Also curious how Nomura Greentech being fully integrated into Nomura - now called the Global Greentech Industrials group - has affected HH outreach and exits. Finally, who are often the competitors in the space?
Nomura Greentech is not being fully integrated in Nomura. It is also called the Global Greentech Industrials and Infrastructure Group not Global Greentech Industrials group.
The group was also created like 3 months ago, so I think it is too early to answer your questions.
Yes, it is being fully integrated in the Greentech, Infra and Industrials (GII) team
Thanks for the correction and my apologies. Would you happen to know if it's possible to place into larger PE firms through their climate funds, such as TPG Rise Funds, semi-easily? Also, for PE, are exits only climate-tech/infra opportunities? Finally, how is the North America team doing in terms of deal flow right now? Just saw they did a co-placement for Porsche recently!
Heard nomura green tech was a sweat shop but that may have changed now. Did see someone lateral to Evercore recently so I doubt it restricts any of your options
Harvard — Stanford — Moelis
what’s their class size and how hard is it to place into Greentech?
The incoming summer intern class is 3 people in Greentech in SF and like ~5-7 in Greentech in NYC.
Can only comment on the EMEA team. The Nomura team GII (Greentech, Infra, and Industrials) has now fully absorbed Nomura Greentech. The group is the strongest at Nomura EMEA and has very strong dealflow acting as sole advisor (w/o financing) on a lot of deals. The team is a sweatshop, that's true, and has to turn down some deals. They've increased recruiting recently tho. This team will give you a very good exposure and you'll be able to exit to BB/EB quite easily. Exit to MF is quite limited tho but that could change as the team reputation is increasing a lot. Exit to MM PE is should be easy.
Is the team still in Zurich or is it in London now?
GII is in both London and Zurich. The team has around 60 ppl across these 2 locations (80% London / 20% Zurich). Obviously, the Greentech MDs are historically based in Zurich so you’ll work more on this sub sector if you join the Zurich team
This is accurate.
Currently at Greentech - do not recommend it for anyone. Exit ops are good not because of Greentech but because of candidates very desperate to get out of NGT they boil the ocean when it comes to recruiting.
Anecdotally, in Europe quite a few people moved to buy-side (different specialized infra funds mostly) with 2-3 lateraling to MS/GS/JPM.
Why do you not recommend it? Do you know anything on the internship program?
It seems that Greentech NY recent exits this year were to BlackRock and GIC. That to me seems very strong. I noticed that some exited out to growth equity funds also. Being desperate does not guarantee good exit - obviously with energy transition and the kinds of deals they work on, people from this place are in demand.

Two SF people recently exited to EIP and I believe Generate Capital
reiterating above - these are not strong exits and EIP might have the lowest pay of any "energy fund"
