Non American on Wall Street

Does not having a US citizenship hinder your progress in the corporate hierachy at all? (NYC Office)

Is there a glass ceiling on international student hires?

From what I have read, most people who break into top positions are naturalised along the way.

I realise it sounds like a pessimistic question but I wouldn't want to spend $400k going to a target in US if some  bureaucracy is standing in the way. People already in the industry can shed some more light on this matter.

(People who'll say you'll naturalise along the way, no, not with 50+ yr backlog for greencard)

50+ year?

Is that for Indian/Chinese?

If your goal is to get citizenship on your own, then you’re delusional and the cost isn’t worth it.

But you can marry a citizen along the way instead of being naturalized. H1B is all luck no skill, so if you’re a hardass of doing things the right way then the cost isn’t worth it.

There’s no ceiling as long as you can make money, but the ceiling will be imposed by immigration if your visa isn’t renewed or something even after getting the initial H1B.

In a similar boat as you. When I first came here for college I thought that I would end up staying here for the rest of life; however the reality is H1B / green card is all luck-based. Starting to feel it’s not worth the overhang / constant stress to continue pursuing a path to naturalization. I may not even be alive by the time I get my green card due to the crazy backlog!
