Non Target First Year

Recently started at FSU and am currently a finance major but might double major in finance and accounting. I’m looking to break into investment banking I grew up comfortably in South Florida, my father is a Portfolio Manager going on almost 30 years experience. My question is is it possible to get into a good MBA program from FSU? And how much did I fuck up going to a nontarget school?

FSU is a complete non target but you could do this path :

FSU is a party school , so join a big frat and connect with other rich kids to build a network Get 4.0 GPA, join the finance club , Noles on Wall Street, talk to some FSU alumni on the street Ask your dad to set you up with a finance internship in your freshman summer

After Sophomore year, 4.0 gpa plus another finance internship transfer to a semi target or target depending on ACT/SAT scores and essay . First semester at semi or target its important to network, join the new university finance clubs keep up the high gpa and get an internship by leveraging previous internships.

Do not bank on getting into a good mba program because nothing is guaranteed and there are a lot more kids from better undergrads with better job experience and way better chance.

Alternatively you could spend all 4 years at FSU enjoying being in a frat, looking at shitty noles football , fucking hot chicks and graduate with an opportunity to work at a BB PWM in south florida earning relatively good money if thats your goal.

Nothing wrong with that lifestyle but FSU makes it extremely difficult for you to have a chance at wall street .If you want to significantly increase your chances , you should look into transferring into a better university.

I think you're underestimating how competitive IB is. There are a ton of students from higher ranked schools who are all getting high gpa's and starting early yet fall through the cracks during recruiting. Sure going from FSU-->Wall Street is doable but its a path that involves a ton of luck and don't forget that IB in itself is very elitist , so the decision to choose a student from FSU over a semi target is a gamble that many banks will not take.
