Can I just say as someone from a non target school man do we have better personalities. Have tried to have convos with Ivy Leaguers but they can be so pretentious and try not to relate to anyone that didn’t pay +100k per year for school. Being from a non target made me work just as hard to level the playing field so stop throwing daddy’s name around like it’s special

Go to a non-target that is 5mins away from an Ivy so we all go to the same bars etc. Don't get me wrong, met a bunch of cool kids but my god have I met so many assholes/weirdos.
I was a girl's date at a formal. Everyone there was an ivy student other than me. We were obvs drunk and all some of these fuckers could talk about was their GPA, degrees, where they interned etc. I was meeting this girl's friends and when they found out I didn't go to their ivy, the amount of shit I would get lol. I mentioned that I'd signed an IB offer and they'd ask "how do you know about IB?". Some of them would even shit on their ivy counterparts for doing a "less prestigious" major. In the end I started lying about being a student there because I quickly got tired of the condescending chats.
TLDR- some ivy kids are super cool but a lot of are just obsessed with their prestige and education.

There’s normal and nice people at all schools! Ivies may have more extreme personalities because you have people who are extremely smart, privileged, accomplished etc. but just like they shouldn’t judge you for when you went to school, you shouldn’t judge them either
Counterpoint: this industry just attracts assholes. I go to a big state school with an organization that is basically a prerequisite to go to Wall Street from our school. About 50% of the time I run into someone who wants to go down that path/is involved in the organization at a bar they're just insufferable to talk to. How are you 20-21 years old and the only thing you want to talk about is your internship? You don't have any hobbies? A relationship? Any cool interests? Nothing? I don't go to bars because I'm looking for a fucking networking session with some hardo, I go out to have fun with people I like.
Most likely because getting that SA offer was their life in university. Not too many assholes from fulltime bankers and most of them are actually very social or at least have high EQ.
The people that never grow out of only talking about internships go from “assholes” to hardos. I think undergrads romanticize banking and then when you hit the desk you either double down and make it your only personality trait or you realize it’s a job and the highlights of your life shouldn’t be the decks and models you built.

Can relate. Even today with people at my current job (with a lot of people who went Ivy for undergrad) and literally all they talk about is work. It's as if there's nothing else in the world to these people. I just think its the industry.
I went to a target and can definitely understand everyone talking about school and internships and other things that people might call prestigious. It's annoying and more common at ivies but I think its more about finance than the target school itself.
Transferred from a nontarget to an Ivy and I could not agree more.

What about academically rigorous non-target grads that are boring, pretentious, and unrelatable? We have to convince ourselves that we’re as good or ideally better than other people without having any prestige, or pedigree, or evidence at all in our favor except being a part of our shitty school finance club that nobody’s heard about, not even 90% of the kids at your school. Feels bad man.
But at least MM IB is paradise.
But damn people at Ivys are so much smarter (especially HYP). Was in a conversation recently with 2 HYP grads and a girl who went to a great T-20, and she just formed sentences so much slower. Granted, the HYP grads were on the investment team and the T-20 girl was in HR, and I know there are very smart people from all these schools but still, it was painfully obvious the differing levels of intelligence. Maybe people being fun/having personalities is different, but it sure made an impression on me.
Guess that is why my previous non-target mediocre principal talked to fast lol. Gotta sound like target.
