Not hearing anything from BBs

Hey guys,

Have applied to all the big names in IBD, but was a long shot to begin with, considering this is my first IB experience. No replies for 1st round at all.

Am in APAC region, so not sure if all firms' recruitment have been wrapped up yet. What do u suggest in this case? Cold-email/call assoc/analyst/VPs? or Target small shops? Or both?

Much appreciated!

all first round interviews have been already sent out/done; if you haven't heard back yet, it means you didn't make the resume cut. Emailing people is useless as they have no incentive to push you for a 1st round when all the 1st rounds have already been done. Best course of action is to network with small shops.

I ain't got my reply from Jay-z yet either!!

But on a serious note, just keep trying and do something better next time. I'm also someone with crap credentials but have managed to get the attention of a few firms. Just keep knocking on that door and sooner or later someone will answer.

Absolute truths don't exist... celebrated opinions do.

Same here, but there's still ways to twist that into being a good fit for IB.

I gotta admit that out of all BBs I only got first rounds for roughly half of them, most likely because of my non-IB background (controlling for gpa/other attainments etc visavis my peers)

And in APAC, I've come to realize that your school really matters a lot...

Hi there,

I'm located in Singapore so I can really only comment on the Singapore scene. What you can do (or what I did to land interviews with the boutique firms in Singapore) is to 1) Refer to the Monetary Association of Singapore (MAS)'s https://masnetsvc.mas.gov.sg/FID.html</a">website which basically has every certified finance related firm on that list. I cold emailed about 20-30 companies and got a few replies. *Do note that some firms are a little shady so do a little research before hand 2) Refer to LinkedIn. I'm assuming you're in a local university, if that's the case at least some of your seniors would have landed jobs at the BB/Boutiques. Get some information from them, they'll help you out if they can and you can find some pretty good Boutiques that people worked in before landing a job at a BB.

I have a test tomorrow so I can't write much now, perhaps I'll extend a little more in the future but on the top of my head i can think of

1) Reciprocus (Small Shop Boutique, Specialises in cross border M&As) - where I interviewed at 2) Daiwa Capital (I'm not sure if this is classified as Boutique or MM though) 3) CLSA 4) Well known boutiques like Lazard/Evercore/Rothschild (but these are pretty hard to enter) 5) Partners Capital

All the best :)

hey, thanks for ur inputs, can i pm u for more info regarding the boutiques u interviewed at! thanks!

Network with people and spin that. Here's two facts you can use to your advantage.

  1. At many BB's, they won't even look at an IB Resume unless somebody on the team recognizes the name. Make sure that they do. Networking has been beaten to death around here. However, if you see a posting go up for a specific team IMMEDIATELY attempt to make a connection at that firm/team. Just be straight up and say that you got wind of an opening and would like to learn a bit more about the group before you apply.

  2. You don't have IB experience? Great. Bulge Bracket firms have the best training programs and offer you the opportunity to gain exposure to wider range of deals than other firms offer. That's a great reason to want to go to a large firm.

Don't listen to this...Networking is a non factor in APAC. I'm working at a BB in APAC right now, and not a single person I know got their position via networking
