Not hearing anything from BBs

Question

Hey guys,

Have applied to all the big names in IBD, but was a long shot to begin with, considering this is my first IB experience. No replies for 1st round at all.

Am in APAC region, so not sure if all firms' recruitment have been wrapped up yet. What do u suggest in this case? Cold-email/call assoc/analyst/VPs? or Target small shops? Or both?

Hi there, I'm located in Singapore so I can really only comment on the Singapore scene. What you can do (or what I did to land interviews with the boutique firms in Singapore) is to 1) Refer to the Monetary Association of Singapore (MAS)'s https://masnetsvc.mas.gov.sg/FID.htmlwebsite which basically has every certified finance related firm on that list. I cold emailed about 20-30 companies and got a few replies. *Do note that some firms are a little shady so do a little research before hand 2) Refer to LinkedIn.

Network with people and spin that.  Here's two facts you can use to your advantage.

At many BB's, they won't even look at an IB Resume unless somebody on the team recognizes the name.  Make sure that they do.  Networking has been beaten to death around here.  However, if you see a posting go up for a specific team IMMEDIATELY attempt to make a connection at that firm/team.  Just be straight up and say that you got wind of an opening and would like to learn a bit more about the group before you apply.

Don't listen to this...Networking is a non factor in APAC. I'm working at a BB in APAC right now, and not a single person I know got their position via networking
