NYC Roommate Hunt

Looking for a male roommate as I’m moving to NYC around May/June. Am a guy starting work in banking in July. I’m flexible on move in.

Looking for price range around 2-2.5k per person.

Location around FiDi/midtown/west side as my office is in Tribeca. Happy to discuss this too.

Pm if interested or you may know someone also searching.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some tips and insights for your NYC roommate hunt:

  1. Budget and Location: Your budget of $2-2.5k per person is reasonable for areas like FiDi, Midtown, or the West Side. FiDi is quieter and close to Tribeca, making it a convenient choice for your office location. Midtown offers more nightlife and social opportunities, while the West Side provides a mix of both.

  2. Finding Roommates: Many WSO users recommend connecting with fellow incoming analysts or professionals in banking. You can reach out via LinkedIn, school networks, or even forums like WSO's roommate threads. Sharing your timeline and preferences (e.g., male roommate, flexible move-in) will help you find a good match.

  3. Timing: Start actively searching for apartments and roommates around March or April. Most leases in NYC are signed 4-6 weeks before the move-in date, so this timeline aligns well with your May/June move.

  4. Apartment Hunting Tips:

    • Look for "no fee" apartments to save on broker fees.
    • Be prepared to show proof of income (40-65x monthly rent) or have a guarantor (100x monthly rent).
    • Consider subletting or short-term options if you're unsure about committing to a long-term lease.
  5. Neighborhood Suggestions:

    • FiDi: Quiet, close to Tribeca, and offers modern apartments.
    • Midtown/Murray Hill: Popular among young professionals, with good nightlife and social scenes.
    • West Side (Chelsea/West Village): Trendy areas with a mix of entertainment and proximity to work.

Feel free to PM potential roommates or post on forums like WSO's roommate threads to expand your search. Good luck with your move and new role in banking!
